Default Why Mag250 can't see wifi adapter

I am trying to use a Mag250 with wifi adapter. As soon as I select Wifi from Network menu, it keeps saying Wifi Adapter Not connected. I have tried both ports, rear and front but no luck.

Is it that Mag250 is not wifi capable or there is something I need to change to make it work.

Any help greatly appreciated. Thx.

Did it work before with this adapter?

Or are you trying this adapter for the first time? In this case it may not be compatible with the Mag.

Yes. It's the first time I am using wifi adapter. The box belongs to my son. He moved and doesn't have internet connection nearby, neither do I. So, trying to setup wifi on it.

sssccc,

Then it may not be compatible with the Mag Box. Not all wi fi adapters work on a Mag.

You have to check the chipset of the adapter and see if it is on the Informir site.

The Informir site will have different brands like TPLink, Tenda but they specify which chipset they are using and that is what is important, not the brand name of the adapter.

How do I check chipset of the adapter. All it says is 802.11n ?

Mr Hanky. I also checked the version and it is at 0.2.18-r10-250 from jan 2015. Is that good ?

sssccc,

If it is a brand name adapter like tp link than you can google the model number and check the specs.

If it's one of those generic adapters then you can't know what chipset it is unless where you got it from has a spec sheet that indicates the chipset.

As for firmware you are behind. The latest one is 02.18.r22 from Dec. 26, 2017. Update the firmware and maybe it will work.

I have a compatible adapter that stopped working with my mag254 after a update but that was fixed with another update.

Wifi Adapters are wiered for MAG's. Only some types work and you must check before getting one. Even then, there can be faulty ones. They somehow seem to be pretty fragile when people play around turning the stick to position.
